Featured Guest: Mary Chapin Carpenter
![]() | The Road by Cormac McCarthyOne of the most compelling novels I have ever read. I began it one morning and read it throughout the day until I finished it. It made me think, made me shiver, made me fear for our world, while at the same time illuminating the extraordinary bond between parents and children, and how that bond represents the best of humanity. |
![]() | The Painted Veil by W. Somerset MaughamThis was lent to me by a friend, and I loved it for its period setting, its description of passion and doubt and for the resilience shown by the main character who had to go through enormous life lessons to discover it within herself. |
![]() | Eveningland by HemRecommended by an Internet list that I follow; this was a gem, a jewel, a gift to discover. Sally Ellyson's vocals and the pastoral arrangements of enigmatic, utterly gorgeous songs and brief musical interludes enchant and inspire me. The title song makes me cry. Theyshould be scoring multitudes of movies with their work. |
![]() | Finzi: A Centenary Collectionby the English String Orchestra, conducted by William Boughton I purchased this CD primarily for the Eclogue for Piano and Strings, but fell in love, not surprisingly, with everything else. The Eclogue for Piano and Strings is mesmerizing to me, taking you up mountains and allowing you to float like a bird through the green valleys below. A deeply moving piece of music. |
![]() | Little Miss SunshineI saw this movie when it first arrived in theatres, and then had to purchase the DVD when it came out. This film is brilliant, the actors are perfect, the whole thing is hilarious, and when I saw it in the theatre, it was the first movie in ages where the audience clapped at the end. |
