Borders Group, Inc.

corporate headquarters
community support

Since Ann Arbor, MI is our corporate headquarters' hometown, Borders Group focuses its financial support on a number of local organizations with specific missions related to cultural diversity, literacy and reading, or the performing arts. These groups represent areas of shared community life that are close to the "heart" of our entire company as well as the passion and interests of our corporate employees. Our current partners include: Ann Arbor Film Festival, Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, Ann Arbor Youth Chorale, Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, Library of Michigan Foundation, Michigan Theater, Peace Neighborhood Center, Reach Out and Read, The Sphinx Organization, University Musical Society, Washtenaw Literacy, and Wild Swan Theater, among others.

In 1997, employees at our corporate headquarters established a partnership with Pittsfield Elementary School in Ann Arbor through the local Partners in Excellence Program. Employees have continually supported students at the school by reading to them, working on art projects, assisting with school events, organizing special appearances by costumed characters and performers, and more.

Additionally, the company invests in select local organizations with a broader mission of improving the quality of life in the community. In recent years, we fulfilled pledge commitments for three major capital campaigns for leading local organizations: Food Gatherers, the Red Cross and YMCA. We also support the Washtenaw United Way and the New (Nonprofit Enterprise at Work) Center, a resource and technical assistance center for all nonprofits in southeast Michigan. Dozens of other local charitable organizations receive donations of merchandise to help them with program or special event activities.
