Borders Superstores

General Managers
In our Borders stores, General Managers set the tone for our employees and our customers. They oversee every aspect of our stores including inventory, operations, human resources, sales, and cafe operations. Their role is to create and nurture an inspiring work environment and to demonstrate their dedication to the craft of bookselling. General Managers are people who enjoy promoting their enthusiasm and passion about what we sell among our employees and customers.

Managers
Passion for customer service and the books, music, and movies we sell is essential. Along with the other management team members, the goal of our managers is to work with the General Managers to create a vibrant, positive environment that is at all times consistent with our mission of being a headquarters for knowledge and entertainment throughout the world.

Supervisors
These leaders are out on our sales floors, working with employees and customers to ensure that both groups always enjoy the most positive experience possible in our stores.

Sellers/Inventory Process Team/Cashiers
Fully experiencing a book is enriching and satisfying. So is the ability of our employees to promote the magical experience of books in ways that help others live more fully and intensely. That's the role of Borders employees: to engage our customers every day by sharing their knowledge and passion for the books, music, and movies we sell. From creating displays on the sales floor to making recommendations and helping people find just what they're looking for, our employees act as the heart and soul of our business.



Borders Specialty Stores (Waldenbooks, Borders Express, Borders Outlet, Airport and Kiosks)

Store Managers
Store Managers oversee inventory, operations, human resources, and sales. Store Managers work hard to build teams who ensure that our brand experience is consistent at every point, whether our customer is rushing off to catch a flight or browsing at the mall.

Assistant Managers
These leaders are out on our sales floors, working with Sellers and customers to ensure that both groups always enjoy the most positive experience possible in our stores.

Sellers

Field-Based Corporate Opportunities

Zone Vice Presidents
The Zone Vice President has full accountability for sales and profit results for his/her area of responsibility. In this leadership role, the Zone VP provides leadership and tools for creating and maintaining a customer-focused, sales driven organization. The position requires working with internal partners to develop and implement innovative ways to drive business results and process improvements. The Zone Vice President is also responsible for enhancing organizational capability through effective leadership development resulting in bench strength at all levels through managing, developing, challenging, coaching, mentoring and recruiting effective teams responsible for the management of the business.

Sales Directors (Borders Superstores)
The Sales Director is responsible for driving sales and profit through our products and merchandising in our stores. This position's objectives include analyzing demographic trends, identifying and developing valuable relationships, and communicating selling opportunities. The Sales Director also partners with the zone Marketing and zone Sales teams to maximize sales opportunities.

Regional Managers (Borders Specialty Stores)
The Regional Manager is responsible for overseeing all facets of store operations in an assigned area including new store openings, expansions, remodels, and store closures. Key areas of this role will also focus on leading and developing District Managers, building teams and maintaining an environment where customers enjoy a rich shopping experience. Through executing company initiatives, the Regional Manager will drive consistency and ensure that all standards positively impact results. Additionally, the Regional Manager will ensure that performances of all employees are managed appropriately, in addition to proactively recruiting, selecting, training and retaining top talent.

District Managers
District Managers inspire the people in their districts, ensuring that each store has what it needs to succeed to be a great place for employees and customers alike. They support their General Managers or Store Managers in their efforts to make each store a vibrant community for book, music, and movie lovers, and to provide excellent customer service.

Zone Human Resources Managers
Our stores are only as good as the people who work in them. With more than 25,000 people serving our customers around the country, the task of ensuring that these people are the very best is challenging indeed. The field-based Senior HR Managers and HR Managers work with Zone Vice Presidents, Regional Managers and District Managers to ensure that we find the best talent, provide great development and training, drive excellent employee performance, and maintain an environment where people recognize that they are valued.

Senior Marketing Managers
Our Senior Marketing manager is accountable for all facets of Field Marketing within the assigned region order to drive revenue and profitability, develop customer loyalty and build on Borders' position as a brand leader. A functional area for this role is coordinating the implementation of all national Field Marketing programs, policies and initiatives, including national events, promotions, sponsorships and campaigns. The position requires partnering with field leaders to develop market-based marketing strategies to support key regional business initiatives for both Borders Superstores and Borders Specialty stores. This role is also responsible for managing Filed Marketing Managers, evaluating performance, overseeing the budget, and training and developing his or her team. The Senior Marketing Manager's goal is to build valuable partnerships with our corporate sales force in order to drive sales.

District Marketing Managers
District Marketing Managers work in conjunction with Regional Marketing Managers and District Managers to develop district marketing objectives, strategies and tactical plans for Borders Superstores. These initiatives must align with Borders core values of supporting literacy, the arts and emerging authors and artists, and must work toward making Borders a headquarters for knowledge and entertainment.

Zone Loss Prevention Managers
This group (which may include Area LP Managers and Senior LP Managers) supports the stores in protecting our assets and minimizing risk. Zone LP Managers partner with our Zone Vice Presidents and District Managers to provide support, training, and guidance to the field, making our stores safe environments for both employees and customers.

National Sales Account Managers
The National Sales Account Manager (NSAM) provides leadership to support their Borders superstore zone to drive corporate sales growth within the Field Sales & Service Department. This position is responsible for ensuring that his/her team is proactively driving positive sales results from local, regional, and national companies and institutional organizations (i.e. schools, libraries, hospitals, and churches). NSAMs create relationships with Borders Group Savings & Services customers in their zones with a focus on customer needs and devise creative, profitable methods on how to serve them. This is a salaried and commission-based position that must work closely with its Zone Vice President, Store Management, Loss Prevention, and Home Office partners.

Sales Account Managers
The Sales Account Manager (SAM) position is a sales-generating position. This position is responsible for pro-actively driving positive sales results from local, regional, and national companies and institutional organizations (i.e. schools, libraries, hospitals, and churches). SAMs create relationships with Borders Group Savings & Services customers in their zones with a focus on their needs and devise creative, profitable methods on how to serve them. The SAM position is required to engage in outside sales 100% of the time and drive all incremental traffic and sales into the Borders stores. This is a salaried and commission-based position that reports to the National Sales Account Manager and must work closely with its District Managers, Store Management, Sales Account Representative, Loss Prevention, and Corporate Office partners.

Paperchase Area Managers
Paperchase Area Managers provide leadership to support a marketplace to drive sales growth, maximize overall profitability, meet and focus on exceeding financial expectations, implement operational goals and ensure brand execution for Paperchase in the USA. The Paperchase Area Manager manages Paperchase Shop employees within his or her area, conducts the analysis of metrics and ensures consistent execution, evolution of inventory, merchandising and visual presentation standards.
